REST IN PEACE – TERESA HENNESSY FCJ

by

Today it was the funeral of one of our sisters: Teresa Hennessy.  The funeral was in Australia and here in Indonesia I followed the ceremony in my heart and prayer.  Teresa was a great woman who lived her FCJ life to the full and gave her all to those she ministered to and most especially the poor.  Long before the Church was calling us all to commit to “the option for the poor” Teresa had made it her life’s work.  She spent many years in the Philippines and was able to open the way to education and a bright future for many children, young people and families.  On her return to Australia Teresa ministered to refugees and continued to work for the people in the Philippines.  In her final years Teresa bore suffering with courage, humour and a strength of spirit that was truly inspiring.  I am  grateful that Teresa is no longer in pain but how much I will miss her/we will miss her.  We will meet you in the heart of Jesus, our companion.  Pray for us and we will pray for you.

Thank you, Clare, for this tribute to Teresa.I have known Teresa for many years and was privileged to live with her in her final months. She was an inspiration with her courage, good humour and prayerfulness.I’m sure that Teresa is already enjoying the fulness of life with her Faithful Companion.

Thank you so much for the contributions from our sisters regarding our dear Teresa. We here in Kew were were truly blest to have Teresa’s last days sent with her in the past couple of months. She was indeed an example of faithfulness, single mindedness and moving towards her eternal home. She has touched us all and we have grown.
