THE NOVICES’ THIRTY DAY RETREAT: WEEK TWO – WHICH TYPE OF PERSON ARE YOU?

by

We are moving nicely into Week Two of the retreat.  The novices have been praying on the early life of Jesus and are now moving into the time when they are asked to deepen their response to God’s call.  One of the exercises they will be praying on is called “Three Types of Persons.”  During this prayer we are asked to think about how we respond to God’s call to us.  In the paraphrased words of David Fleming the three types of persons are those who are:  1. “A lot of talk but no action.”  2. “(Ready) to do everything (to serve God) but the one thing necessary. ”  3. “(Those who say to God) to do your will is my desire.”  The novices are praying for the freedom to respond to God in the way that “type three persons” respond.  Isn’t that what we all long for?  Let us pray that we might all have the freedom to say “To do your will is my desire.”

Clare, thank you once again for your thoughtfulness in allowing us to journey with the novices and you.

I pray that Mei, Rowena and Teresia trust their own thoughts, feelings and desires when it comes to discerning God’s will and come to now that God will elicit the desires that are most for their good if they open their hearts to God’s guardianship. May they and all who are praying for the novices request of God to give them these desires. “For, if we have this desire (to be with Jesus), God must want us to have it, and for our good.” (Barry, Finding God in All Things, 1991p.79)
