Our world mourns the death of one of the greatest figures of our age…Nelson Mandela.  As we read his words we recognise what a powerful witness to peace and reconciliation he has been for all of us:

“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion.  People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

In the words of Archbishop Desmond Tutu:  “How blessed we have been. He has become the most admired statesman in the world, an icon of forgiveness and reconciliation, a moral colossus … wonderful man, wonderful, wonderful gift to us”.

Our best memorial to Nelson Mandela is to continue to walk the way of reconciliation and peace.  May we truly become people of peace…
