A Perfect Place to Rest in Peace

by

This morning I took the time to re-visit the chapel in the Church of St. Dominique, Paris and pray before the mortal remains of our foundress, Venerable Marie Madeleine.  As I absorbed the beauty of her final resting place I was amazed at how our charism was so present in this special place.  She is installed below a stained glass window of Mary, the Mother of God being crowned, and in the Society we have Mary as Queen and Superior General.  On the left are the Stations of the Cross, Jesus being condemned to death and Jesus saying to the disciple he loved, ‘Here is your Mother’.  We are called to be women at the foot of the cross.  The reliquary is embedded in the wall of the Lady Chapel and is not far from the Tabernacle so she remains close to Jesus, her faithful companion. Seeing the candles that had been lit by pilgrims as they prayed at her relics was humbling.  She was always a missionary woman, a woman for others and although now with God, she continues this most blessed work and in God’s time may miracles happen that will lead to the church’s formal recognition of her as a Saint for our time.  As she rests in peace and I return to Somers Town, London, I know the chapel where she now rests is very special for us and for all who will encounter Jesus through her.  May she now be able to forever rest in peace.  Amen.  Amen.  Amen.

    Dear Anouska,
Thank you so much for providing those of us who live far from Paris with details about the chapel in which Marie Madeleine is now enshrined. It really does sound just perfect, the way you have described it. How wonderful God is, to have had that church have that space available at this time!!!!! I am especially thrilled to hear about the candles, as I, too, have a devotion to lighting candles for special intentions….. Venerable Marie Madeleine d’Houet, pray for us!
