The Papal Visit to the UK – make a joyful noise!

Here in the UK  we are preparing for the visit of Pope Benedict – a great occasion! This will be the first State visit of a Pope to England. (When Pope John Paul II came it was for a pastoral visit). Those of you familiar with the history of religion here in the UK will recognise why it is a big deal for us!

There is a lot being said in the run up to the visit, some very positive, some very negative, but today I received an email inviting me to ‘make a joyful noise’ about the Pope’s visit! It made me think about what I want to be joyful about – a universal church; the many different aspects and faces of the Catholic Church in UK; the social outreach of the Church through schools, hospitals and organisations; but most of all I want to make a joyful noise about the many wonderful, committed Catholics that I meet every day at work, in the street and in the Parish!

Here is a little encouragement for those of you on Twitter:

Yes, Lynne, there are lots of things that we can be joyful about as Catholics living in this country. I pray that the Pope will inspire and remind people of how attractive Jesus’ call to living the Gospel actually is. I also hope that he will go home knowing Catholics living in the UK to be people of joy and hope and that our joy may add to his own.

I think this is so true. It would be so easy to let the negative noise drown out the wonderful things that Catholics up and down the country do on a daily basis that transform lives. Let us not allow ourselves to be drowned out by the negativity but pass the message on: Jesus said, ‘I came that you may have life and have it to the full!’ Let’s show ourselves as people fully alive in Christ and ready to welcome the successor of St. Peter, praying that he will bring this message to all who can listen. Let us make a joyful noise!!!!!

Yes – let’s make a very joyful noise!!! There are some who will always “rubbish” those who try to do good and especially public figures like the Pope…Let us not be discouraged or afraid and continue to witness to our faith and to support those who lead us!

The Papal visit has had quite a bit of coverage here in the USA on National Public Radio and I have been rejoicing in all the good that is being done. May we all constantly make a joyful noise unto the Lord, with every word, action, and intention!!!!!

It also has had a good coverage where I am and I enjoyed watching the Maria Fidelis choir sing on internet. May Pope´s visit to the UK be a “push” in our faith in Christ.
