WOMEN OF THE WORD

by

Our Women’s Bible Group met today as usual.  This week, the meeting was held in the FCJ house located in that part of Yogyakarta known as Baciro.  There were fifteen of us present, including Rachel FCJ who is a member of the Baciro community.  As always, we based our reflection and sharing on the readings for the coming Sunday: Job 38:1, 8-11; 2 Cor 5:14-17; Mk 4:35 -41.  The reading from Job took a bit of teasing out but eventually it led us to share on times when we had personally experienced God’s love in our lives.  We found echoes of the same theme in Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians.  We moved on to reflect on what it meant to be “a new creation” in Christ (verse 14).  The Gospel story of the calming of the storm opened us up to deep sharing on what our faith meant to us in times of suffering.  We closed our sharing with a brief time of prayer and intercession.

Usually we have simple refreshments after our meetings and we spend about forty five minutes chatting and laughing with each other.  Today, we had a meal together, a combined effort, to celebrate the birthdays of three of our members.  Any food that was left over was divided out amongst the group, nothing was wasted.

Our group is known in Indonesian as KKS Marta: Komunitas Kitab Suci Marta – (Martha Bible Community).  The women chose Martha as the patron of this group in expression of their desire to be of service to Jesus.  We are a community united by our desire to know and serve Christ.  I love this group.  I always come home from our meetings  renewed for mission.
