Formation … walking alongside others

by

FCJ Formation takes many forms depending on where you are in the process.  If, like me and many others, you have made final vows then you are mainly responsible for your own continuing growth and development.  It’s a constant challenge to  keep on moving forward, to be ready to change, to move beyond what is comfortable and easy and to take the risk of living life differently – for the sake of the Reign of God.  Our novices, on the other hand, are at the beginning of their religious life and discovering what it all means.  In their case we have carefully planned programmes which are constantly being modified to suit their individual needs.  I am lucky enough to be responsible for the formation of three of our novices for the Province of AsiaAustralia.  We live in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.  I really love this ministry – walking alongside others as they learn about being FCJs.  We are all formed and we all grow through this process.

Some days in formation are just great! Take today for instance, one of our novices just found out that she is accepted to make first vows on August 15th. She’s delighted and so are all the rest of us. Every time someone makes vows it encourages the rest of us and gives us new energy to move forward. I am helped and inspired by the way others live their FCJ lives. Companionship is a wonderful gift. We serve God well when we do it together.

Yes Lynne, it really is exciting to think that there is another woman willing to say “Yes, I too will be a faithful companion of Jesus!” I find it makes me want to say “Me too!” It makes me want to be a better faithful companion of Jesus, a better companion to my companions, a better companion of all those I meet…
